ENGLISH
from 12 years
duration: 46 minutes
In 1609, Galileo Galilei pointed his telescope at the sky, discovering worlds unknown and proving that Aristotle´s long-held theories of the cosmos were in tact wrong. Touching the Edge of the Universe tells the story of astronomy from the time of Galileo and his silple optical telescope to today´s sophisticated space science. ESA Herschel & Planck missions are looking beyond the frontiers of visible light and will make fundamental contirbutions to astronomy and cosmology by exploring the infrared light and the cosmic background radiation. Much closer but not of fewer intrest is our solar system. Is there life on Mars?
imparted knowledge:
Moon, Saturn and Jupiter on the nightsky, birth and death of stars, the electromagnetic spektrum, the ESA-missions Herschel und Planck, the cosmic background radiation, the ESA-mission Exomars
